Important Announcement!

A new state vaccination requirement takes effect this summer. "Beginning July 1, 2001, all children who have not received three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine will be required to receive such immunization prior to entering the 6^th grade."

Because it takes a minimum of four months to complete the series of vaccinations, it is highly advisable that those who haven't started the series begin it immediately so that the third dose can be given before school starts in August.

The vaccine is administered in three doses. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there must be at least 1 month between the first dose and the second dose. Additionally, there must be at least four months between the first and third doses.

HOWEVER, as with all other immunizations, students can be conditionally enrolled with documentation from the physicians office or the local health department of one of the Hep. B. series and a schedule for completion. However, no student should be enrolled without at least one of the immunizations of the series. Should students not meet the schedule for the second immunization of the series, they should be excluded from school until the second immunization is obtained and a schedule for the third.
