PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
AT ROANOKE ADVENTIST PREPARATORY SCHOOL

True education addresses the needs of the whole person and is concerned with the physical, mental, spiritual, social, and emotional dimensions of life.  This is best accomplished when the family, school, and church work together harmoniously.

RAPS exists to assist parents in educating and nurturing their children.  It is a primary goad of our staff to treat every student with compassion and love.  This loving, nurturing environment helps students develop a sense of confidence and self-worth that helps them reach their highest potential in learning.

The staff strives to challenge students by setting higher goals for themselves and the students and encourage the students to work toward their fullest potential in each curriculum area.

OBJECTIVES

bullet
To offer Christian education, where the Holy Scriptures are recognized as the perfect standard of truth. To teach the practical principles provided in the Bible, as seen in the life of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in order to prepare young people to be strong, loyal Christians, and patriotic, law-abiding citizens.
bullet
To provide an understanding that God is a God of love. He is the Source of love, and the perfect example of that love. The reality of God is discussed whenever appropriate in any academic study, not just in Bible class.
bullet
To reveal the Creator and His purpose for each life.
bullet
To provide a well-rounded academic program, with emphasis on the basics needed to succeed in life.
bullet
To teach respect and dignity for all of God's creation.
bullet
To provide a safe, nurturing environment where the student feels free to express thoughts, ideas, concerns, and feelings without fear.
bullet
To teach the students to think for themselves, and be responsible for their choices.
bullet
To provide discipline, which is redemptive in nature.
bullet
To develop students physically so they gain physical skills through movement, training, and game participation.
bullet
To develop good sportsmanship.
bullet
To give students a clear understanding of the principles of healthful living.
bullet
To aid parents in leading their children to form a noble, Christian character.

Mission Statement

The mission of RAPS is to educate, love, nurture its students in a way that will bring glory to God.  The school models itself on the family and undertakes as part of its mission the search for excellence in each student.

RAPS’ mission includes assisting students in discovering and developing their own God-given talents and experiencing the thrill of utilizing their talents in service to others.  The ultimate mission of RAPS is to help students realize that the deepest longings in their hearts can only be met by accepting the grace of God in and through Jesus Christ.

This mission also includes helping students learn to create, invent, and discover – all for the glory of God.  In this way, we hope to prepare students not only to be good citizens of this earth, but of God’s kingdom as well.
